Welcome Garfield16's Wellness Webpage!
Garfield 16 believes personal wellness is one of the four pillars of individual success. We define personal wellness as the social, emotional, and physical well-being that one must tend to in order to learn, grow and one’s full potential.

G16 wellness supports student and staff personal wellness by using the Whole School Whole Community Whole Child (WSCC) model.

The model includes 10 areas that affect student health and they include Health services, health education, counseling, psychological and social services, social and emotional climate, physical activity and physical education, nutrition services and environment, physical environment, community involvement, parent engagement, and employee wellness.

Creating Healthy Schools - Year Two

Wellness in the Works

January 2017, Garfield County School District No. 16 was awarded the Creating Healthy Schools Planning & Assessment Grant from RMC Health, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation that works to create healthy school environments that encourage students to adopt healthy living choices.

This is one of those opportunities that doesn't come along everyday

-  Jody Williams, Food and Nutrition Services Director

The purpose of this project is to develop a comprehensive district-wide health and wellness plan that is aligned with the WSCC model. The plan will detail how the district  will work to maintain a healthy school environment that supports the whole child and the district wide culture of personal wellness.

The 2018 - 2019 school year will be the second year of the two-year grant cycle. This year, the district's Wellness Coordinator will apply for the Creating Healthy Schools Implementation Grant to put the health and wellness plan into action for the 2019 - 2021 school years. This plan will be a result of important health data and input from our students, staff, families and community.

About RMC Health

RMC Health's, Healthy Schools Successful Students program, is the continuation of the previous work of the Coordinated School Health Model that began in 1987. It has adopted the Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child (WSCC) model as the new framework for a coordinated school health approach.

The Healthy Schools Successful Students program collaborates with the Colorado Department of Education (CDE), and is funded by the Colorado Health Foundation (CHF) to change the culture in school districts to implement and sustain policies, systems, and environmental changes that promote student physical activity and healthy eating.
