Homecoming

G16 Families,

GVHS invites you, friends, family, alumni, and community to join us for our Homecoming celebrations. Here is the weekly schedule.

Remember, all schools will be released early on Friday, October 11th for the Homecoming Parade.

Dress-up days for homecoming week are very similar in all schools. 

Tuesday, October 8th:

  • Dress up day: "City Lights"
    • GVHS: 9th graders = green; 10th graders = purple; 11th graders = blue; 12th graders = white; staff = black. 
    • GVMS: 6th grade = green; 7th grade = red; 8th = purple; staff = orange
    • BUE: 5th grade = orange; 4th grade = purple; 3rd grade = blue; 2nd grade = green. 
    • CFL:1st = purple; Kinder = blue; prek = green

Wednesday, October 9th:

  • Dress up day:
    • GVHS, GVMS: "Streets of New York" (dress is grunge, gray, and baggy clothes)
    • BUE: "Good Night New York" Dress comfy in your Pajamas
    • CFL: Dress as your favorite Broadway character.
  • Studman Volleyball at GVHS 6:00 PM
  • Chili Cookoff at GVHS 6:00 PM.
    • Email lrindlisbacher@garfield16.org to enter your chili in the competition by October 3rd. 
    • $5 Meal Deal. $10 All You Can Eat.
  • Powderpuff Football at GVHS 7:00 PM. 
  • Bonfire and Car Smash at GVHS 8:00 PM. 

Thursday, October 10th:

  • Dress up day: "New Years Party" 
    • GVHS: Wear all black and a New Year's hat or headband.
    • CFL, BUE, GVMS: Wear school-appropriate party attire/ "fancy" clothing.
  • GVHS HOME Volleyball Game VS Olathe
    • C-Team: 4:00pm, JV: 5:00pm, V: 6:00pm.
    • Gate Fees: $7 Adults, $5 Senior Citizens, $5 Students.
    • G16 Students and staff free with school ID.
    • Children ages 5 and under free.
    • Pay at the door or order online here. Show email receipt at door for admission. 

Friday, October 11th:

  • Dress up day- ALL SCHOOLS: Cardinal Pride (school spirit- wear red, black, white, and/or Cardinal gear)
  • EARLY RELEASE FOR HOMECOMING PARADE
    • CFL AM Pre K- Release as normal, at 10:40 am. No PM preschool.
    • CFL K/1/BUE Students Released at 11:30 AM.
    • GVMS/GVHS Students Released at 12:30 PM.
    • All students will be fed breakfast AND lunch
    • PM Cardinal Club CANCELLED. AM Cardinal Club as normal.
  • Parade Line-Up at Parachute Branch Library 1:30 pm.
  • Homecoming Parade 2:30 pm. Park along Cardinal Way to watch!
  • Community pep rally in main gym at GVHS and tailgate at GVHS following the parade. 
  • GVHS HOME Football Game at GVHS VS Olathe 7:00 pm. 
    • Gate Fees: $7 Adults, $5 Senior Citizens, $5 Students.
    • G16 Students and staff free with school ID.
    • Children ages 5 and under free.
    • Pay at the door or order online here. Show email receipt at door for admission. 
  • Homecoming Royalty/Class of 2025 Torch Burning- Halftime of Football Game.  

Saturday, October 12th:

  • GVHS Homecoming Dance. 8:00 pm - 11:00 pm.
    • Purchase tickets online by clicking here, or at the GVHS main office starting October 4th for $15 or at the door the day of the dance for $20.
    • GVHS students only.
